Mountain Climbing

On Sunday I went hiking in the mountains with my Austrailian friends and our Mexican guide, Memo. Our adventure began early in the morning with a ride in the back of this truck.

How amazingly beautiful! The first part of the hike was an easy walk along this dirt road, and later turned into a winding trail up the mountain. In the background is the volcano Popocatepetl, or just "Popo" for short.
The climb up the mountain with another amazing view. If you look closely you can see the trail winding across the mountian. My legs still hurt!

At the top, or atleast as far as we were willing to go. Reaching the summit is a two day hike, and recommended for only experienced hikers- I don't think I'll be attempting that one.

Memo and his father, who joined us for part of the hike.

The trail back down the mountain wasn't really a trail at all. Memo led us down hills, over streams, under barbed wire fences, and through many fields like this one. After a few hours, I was pretty convinced we were lost, but Memo really did know where we were the whole time.

Over the river and through the woods...

"The hills are alive with the sound of music..." How can you not think of the Sound of Music when hiking through the mountains? Okay, so maybe the Sound of Music with a little southwestern flavor.
