Cholula

So I finally made it here. What do I say about these first few days? Definately overwhelming, but also amazing. Orientation has began, and I am slowly learning my way around the university and the city. Today we took a tour of Cholula, and I decided to post a few pictures to indroduce you to my city.

This is my new home! My homestay family lives very close to the university in a nice "neighborhood" (one street with only four houses). My family has been very welcoming and very patient with my lack of understanding!

La Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de los Remedios that overlooks the town of Cholula from the top of an ancient pyramid.

A view of Cholula from the top of the pyramid. You can barely see one of the volcanos in the background, el Popocatepetl.

It is hard not to look like a tourist when you are with a large group of Americans! Actually, the internationals at UDLA are from all parts of the world- Canada, France, England, Australia, Germany, and parts of Asia.

El Zocalo de San Andres- this is the town square of one of the districts of Cholula (the one I live in). There is a nice park and yet another church.

This is Cholula's famous prehispanic pyramid. The pyramid is the largest in one of the largest in the world. Later the Spaniards built this church on top of the pyramid. This pyramid is a short walk from campus and easily seen from the university.
